MICHAEL K. CHEN ARCHITECTURE (MKCA) is a growing New York architecture firm dedicated to producing innovative and thoughtful construction work and applied research. The office portfolio encompasses a wide range of scales, from furniture design to interiors to buildings, all of which are deeply informed by a commitment to experimentation and craftsmanship at the highest level, playful sensibility. and a love of DIY, drawing and crafting. Current projects include completely demolished houses, large-scale renovations and residential interiors, community-oriented projects in health and social services, libraries and other forward-thinking institutional projects. Our projects frequently overlap with architecture, interior design and industrial design, often in collaboration with artists and other designers, scientists and engineers. We work as a tight-knit team operating from a studio environment in Manhattan, and all team members participate in the full range of our services and activities.
In March 2020, MKCA co-founded Design advocates (D / A), a network of over 200 small businesses and individuals collaborating on volunteer projects, research and advocacy to help underprivileged communities and nonprofits adapt their spaces to the COVID crisis- 19 and to serve the public good. D / A works on numerous projects with schools and public libraries, arts organizations, social service agencies and community development organizations, local restaurants and New York City agencies, and is committed to put design excellence at the service of equality and the common good.
We are looking for talented mid-level Architects with 2-5 years of full-time professional experience to join our team as Architects or Project Designers. Project Architects lead small design teams within the studio, manage teams of consultants, communicate with clients and work closely with the director and firm partners to develop and manage projects from concept to completion .
The ideal candidate is one who has strong design skills; aesthetic sensibilities, values and an intellectual point of view complementary to the practice; and someone organized, detail-oriented and eager to get their hands dirty. The position offers many opportunities to make a significant contribution to office work and career advancement. Our team members also regularly participate in D / A projects and initiatives.
A professional degree in architecture. Mr Arch, preferred.
Strong digital design skills. Proficiency in Rhino, Revit, Grasshopper and V-Ray is essential.
Experience with several phases of the design process, from conception to completion.
Experience in the production of architectural documentation for construction.
A demonstrated commitment to doing, whether through analog or digital means, including CNC milling, robotics, 3D printing or others.
2 to 5 years of professional experience in architecture.
